lets talk about fishing today. yes, fishing. most of my friends knew i really love fishing. especially my girlfriend. she made it a point that i waste my money more on buying rods and fishing accessories. such as swivels, hooks, leader line and weights. yes, thats right my friend. i really really love fishing to the extend that i will complain and get bored easily if i dont fish once a week.
so what is fishing?
NOUN:
The act, occupation, or sport of catching fish.
A place for catching fish
but for me, fishing is where you become more patient, more knowledgeable. and the excitement when you see your rod bends like crazy and you will wonder how big the fish is at the other end.
fishing is not just a hobby, its a passion. you will be interested to know the rigs, the knots, lines different types of rods and reels that makes a good combination as you journey along to become a specialized surfcast angler.
trust me, real life fishing is not the same as what you see in the cartoons. its much more complicated. the chances of getting a fish depends on how you present your RIG and BAIT. if your RIG is messy and gets tangle with the line easily, chances of a hook up is very very slim. cause the fish might look it as suspicious and will throw the bait away. theres different types of rig,
example
long snood bottom feeder
short snood bottom feeder
apollo rig
pasternoster rigs
cablecar rig
etc etc.
different types of rig is used to target different type of saltwater species. for example,
long snood bottom feeder-target bottom dwellers.
short snood bottom feeder- target mid-water saltwater species.
cablecar righ - used especially when you hook a live bait. tambans, pasir pasir, live prawns.
etc etc.
theres alot to learn in fishing. especially the knots. theres the hangman knots, uni-uni knot, albri knot and so on! i learnt most of the fishing stuffs on a local website. there, i experiment stuffs myself, and now i dont have to buy rigs but i learnt how to tie one myself!
and most importantly, baits. different types of baits are known to target different types of fishes. i always use sarong worms as it is cheap and very effective. used it for my surfcasting trips. theres also wat-wat. a VERY long worm. the local stingrays love the wat-wat as it is fat and yes, juicy. live prawns or dead prawns. used to target siakap(kim bak lor), chermin, ang cho kee, grouper etc etc. tamban fish, the famous bait used at bedok jetty. used to target barracuda, todak, grouper, golden snapper etc etc. even squid! but squid is not that popular for the fishes in singapore. maybe the meat is abit hard to tear. haha.
okay i will end part 1 here. and continue part 2 tomorrow. in part 2 i will give a slight preview on the rods and reels i used for surfcasting. take care then!
